Steven Ugarkovic departs Melbourne City FC as a Champion

Championship-winner, Steven Ugarkovic, has departed Melbourne City FC following the conclusion of his contract.

A calm and consistent presence across two seasons, Ugarkovic made 61 appearances for City, scoring six goals and proving a valuable contributor in a range of roles.

Most recently, he played a key part in City’s Grand Final win, starting and delivering a composed performance in midfield.

Dependable and versatile, Ugarkovic was deployed both as a midfielder in a range of roles, and at full-back across his time in Melbourne, becoming a trusted figure in Aurelio Vidmar’s squad.

He played a pivotal role in City’s Championship triumph over cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory, controlling the tempo in the middle of the park and helping the team secure silverware in front of a sold-out AAMI Park crowd.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“Steven’s experience and quality were huge factors in our success this season, and he has been a hugely important member of our squad since he arrived in 2023.

“We wish him and his young family all the best as they return home to be closer to extended family.”

Steven Ugarkovic said:

“My time in Melbourne, and this season in particular, is something I will never forget.

“To lift the first piece of silverware in my career was such a proud moment, and I want to thank all of my teammates, the coaching and support staff, as well as the City fans for their support throughout my time at the Club.”
